Eyeliner is the single most powerful makeup cosmetic. In fact, unless you line your eyes with eyeliner, your makeup is just not complete. However, for a lot of woman, applying liquid eyeliner is a terrifying thought because it is such a tricky process. If your hand slides even a millimeter outside the line, your eyes look totally out of shape and your makeup goes for a toss. At the same time, if you apply eyeliner precisely, your makeup looks clean and perfect. Check out six tips that make you an expert with liquid eyeliners.
Choose the right liquid eyeliners
Liquid eyeliners are of different types such as gel-based, water-based and oil-based. Each of them has its pros and cons. So, the first thing that you need to do is buy the right kind of liquid eyeliner. Gel based and oil based liners are easier to apply than water based liners. However, they take a longer time to dry and can smudge easily. Water based eyeliners are difficult to apply but dry sooner. The risk of smudging is also less. However, you need to have a lot of practice to get it right with water based liners. Whatever the type of eyeliner you choose, make sure that it is waterproof.
Stretch your eyes when applying
Place your index finger at the outer corner of your eye and pull towards the ear. This action makes your lid taut and stiff. Applying the eyeliner becomes easier and quicker because your lids don’t shake. The outcome is neater.
Apply foundation or primer before the eyeliner
When you apply foundation or primer on your face, dab some on your lids as well. Let the cream or lotion set before applying the eyeliner. The foundation or primer gives a proper base to the eyeliner and the liquid sets well.
Have a steady hand
Make sure that your hand does not shake when you apply the eyeliner. If you find it tough to maintain a steady hand, prop your elbow on a table or any other support to stop the shaking.
Get the shape right
Your eyeliner needs to be thin at the sides and slightly thicker at the center of the lid. You can shape the outer edge depending on the shape and size of your eyes. For example, if your eyes are small, elongate the eyeliner beyond the eye at the outer edge and curl the line towards the eyebrows. If you have large eyes, take the eyeliner just a bit beyond the edge of the eye. Make sure that the line begins at the innermost corner point of the eyelid.
Always apply after eye shadow and before mascara
Eyeliner should be applied after applying the eye shadow so that the line does not get smudged. Apply mascara after eyeliner so that your lashes don’t end up in shabby clamps because of smudged mascara. When you do your eye makeup, mascara should always be applied last, whether you use fake lashes or not.
Finally, do not forget that liquid eyeliner needs some time to dry. Make sure that you don’t open your eyes until the liner dries. After drying, brush powder on it because powder absorbs the excess liquid and prevents smudging. With a bit of patience and practice, you can become an expert in using liquid eyeliners.
